My education, career and life:
In short.

When I was accepted to the general course at Duncan of Jordanstone in 2001 I had every intention of studying animation. I wanted to work for Disney in their California studio, lap up the sun all day, and drink juice under a palm tree.

Four years later I left Dundee with a degree that was focused on Graphic Design and I love it (on occasion). Four months after my graduation I realised that I could not live earning £40 a week, while watching murder she wrote every afternoon in my pyjamas. So I stalked a man called Rufus, everyone should.

I was taken in by, in my opinion, the best graphic design agency in the world or Scotland. They were a good group of people aptly named Good Creative. For (almost) a year I worked closely with Rufus, my new media boss, as a web monkey or new media design junior - the proper title. I worked on so many different sites mainly reproducing pages, and preparing things for development. As a team we would work closely on designs, and I helped design and produce the award winning site for the company. (Oh yes, best = me.)

I, however, had an empty space where academia used to be. I missed the theory of design and the reason for being creative. I returned to Dundee to study my Master of Design (2006-2007) in the hopes that it would help me understand what design actually is, and how it fits in to the lives of other people. At the other end of that I produced essays that commented on design and connected the presence of design to the consumer world, to society, and to culture in general. One of the essays was actually published in Adbusters Magazine, which is the best magazine you can honestly buy. They pleased me so much by publishing it.

Now, I am stuck between writing and design, without a clear path - but that’s the fun isn’t it?

Since 2004 I have travelled to: The United States - New York City, New York Upstate, Philadelphia, Utah, Las Vegas, California; Norway; Sweden; Denmark; Germany; Austria; Switzerland; Liechtenstein; France; Belgium; Ireland; and even Canada and Tijuana for a couple of hours each. I love people, I love culture and I love experiences and adventures. Without adventures how can anyone be creative?

So, if you feel like having a wee chat or discussion or if you feel like paying me money, send a cheeky wee email, or give me a call and we can talk about anything, I'd love to meet you or write an essay about you.
